Enjoy a Dog Friendly Holiday in Wales

Dog Friendly Holidays Wales, Dog and Owner looking out to sea

Do you find your holiday is just not complete if you have to leave your four legged friend behind?

August is National Dog month, so why not join us and celebrate the love of our faithful companions, our dogs. A dog friendly holiday at Tanylan Farm offers you not only a variety of choice when it comes to accommodation, but some great local attractions to explore that will also welcome your dog. So whether you choose to stay in one of our Luxury Holiday Cottages or stay on our Caravan and Camping site, rest assured your well behaved dogs are always welcome.

Our surrounding countryside offers miles of beautiful coastline, open parkland and walking trails, so you have plenty of choice when it comes to exploring the local area with your dog, by throwing on your walking boots packing some sandwiches and enjoying a long walk in the great outdoors.

Many of Carmarthenshire’s beaches are dog friendly all year round. From 1st October to 30th April your dog can gallop the length of these beaches, during the summer months most beaches offer a dog friendly area which are usually well labelled. If you are unsure you can always check the local guides here.

If a woodland walk is more your thing, check out The Brechfa forest, simply follow the countryside code by keeping your dogs on the lead when necessary. You’ll find plenty of great walking trials through the woodlands, or you can romp through Pembrey Country Park.

As for the local attractions, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the welcome you and your well behaved dog will receive. Experience a steam train ride at The Gwili Railway or Visit The National Botanical Gardens of Wales who offer Doggy Dates where dogs can join their owners and visit the Great Glasshouse and stunning gardens. During the month of August you can visit with your dog every Monday and Friday. If it’s some history you are looking for, wonder through the grounds of Dinefwr Park and Castle or Carreg Castle.

After a long walk go for a real treat, why not indulge your dog with some ice cream especially made for dogs at The Heavenly Chocolate Emporium in Llandielo or retreat to one of many cosy pubs or café for a delicious lunch.

Some top tips to ensure your dog is comfortable and happy away from home.

·        Pack a bag for your dog too

·        Make sure to pack a favorite blanket, keeping those familiar things around them can help settle them into their temporary surroundings.

·        Invest in a longer lead, your dog may come back to you at home but don’t assume he/she will on holidays, new smells and new places could lead to them wanting to explore more and potentially get lost. If you do lose your pet, you can contact Carmarthenshire County Council Contact Centre on 01267 234567

·        Pack a jacket, it may be a wet and cold walk. This way you can make the most of your day and not have to rush back to dry off should you encounter the odd shower.

·        Ensure you’ve packed their favorite toy or ball, dogs have a great sense of smell and may not want to play with another dogs ball that has perhaps been provided or left by the previous visitors. The familiarity of their own ball will ensure they don’t feel to unsettled.

·        Make sure if you are out for the day, that you carry water and a suitable drinking bowl with you.

·        Ensure you have an ample supply of poo bags and use and dispose of them appropriately wherever you may be!

·        Think about how you are travelling with your dog and never leave them unattended in car

·        And don’t forget to take plenty of photos of your stay and share to both our Facebook and Instagram page. We love to see happy guests : )

We still have some availability in our Holiday cottages and our caravan and camping site remains open until the end of October.

So what are you waiting for there is absolutely no reason to leave your dog at home, share your holiday experience with your loving companion and make some wonderful and lasting memories in Carmarthenshire.
